Dece t book, but not worth the price Decent art though there's not many well known serial killers in this. Also confused to why Ed Gein has a Russian type background when he grew up in Wisconsin.... on a farm....Looks nice but typos The quality of the book and the pictures are very good. The only qualm I have is that several of the names of killers were spelled wrong, which is frustrating because aside from that it's so perfect. They need spell check.

Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orisha) Free Pdf

ISBN: 1250170974
Title: Children of Blood and Bone (Legacy of Orisha) Pdf
Author: Tomi Adeyemi
Published Date: 2018-03-06
Page: 544

Tomi Adeyemi’s debut novel is the start of what promises to be an epic, addictive new series. The Children of Blood and Bone is influenced by Adeyemi’s West African heritage, and in it she bends religious deities (the Orïsha) and a diverse landscape into a refreshing new take on fantasy. The Children of Blood and Bone is told from multiple points of view, as Inan and Amari, children of the iron-fisted king, and Zélie and Tzain, siblings who have suffered greatly under the king’s regime, find themselves on a dark, magic-filled quest for power. Their journey is accompanied by violence and betrayal, but friendship and even star-crossed love also play a part. Enriched with themes that resonate in today’s social and political landscape, The Children of Blood and Bone takes on injustice, discrimination, and a struggle for change. The action and danger ramp up with each chapter, and I found myself racing through the final pages, holding my breath right up to the cliffhanger ending. -- Seira Wilson for the Amazon Book Review“A magnificent, heartrending, earthshaking debut.” ―New York Times-bestselling author Daniel José Older "High stakes, a captivating fantasy landscape, and a brave heroine worth rooting for make Children of Blood and Bone unlike anything I've ever read." ―Kami Garcia, #1 New York Times bestselling co-author of Beautiful Creatures and author of The Lovely Reckless "Powerful, captivating, and raw―Adeyemi is a talent to watch. Exceptional." ―Kirkus, Starred Review"Adeyemi’s devastating debut is a brutal, beautiful tale of revolution, faith, and star-crossed love." ―Publishers Weekly, Starred Review"... Adeyemi keeps it fresh with an all-black cast of characters, a meaningful emphasis on fighting for justice, a complex heroine saving her own people, and a brand of magic made more powerful by the strength of heritage and ancestry. Children of Blood and Bone is perfect for fans of Nnedi Okorafor, Nancy Farmer, and Angie Thomas." ―VOYA, Starred Review"Nigerian culture and geography... give this fantasy a distinct flavor, further distinguished by the intensity of emotion." ―Horn Book “Meet Tomi Adeyemi―the new J.K. Rowling. (Yep, she’s that good).” ―Entertainment Weekly“Poses thought-provoking questions about race, class and authority that hold up a warning mirror to our sharply divided society.” –The New York Times“A fast-paced, excellently crafted hero's journey…populated with compelling and nuanced black characters.” –NPR“A debut novel that is nearly impossible to put down.”–USA Today“Adeyemi’s writing is beautiful and immersive.” –Tor.com“A miraculous achievement.” –The Guardian

They killed my mother.
They took our magic.
They tried to bury us.

Now we rise.

Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.

But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.

Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for an enemy.

#1 New York Times bestseller, March 14, 2018

Hmmm I completely expected to love this book. Then, after a few chapters, I wanted to like this book, but, ultimately, my reaction is kinda... Somewhere between "meh" and annoyance. The characters were a bit flat. They started out promising but were never lived up to their own promise. In fact they declined, steadily mostly because they mostly stayed the same and had the same inner dialogue the ENTIRE book. Even the character that seems to "change" the most is so wishy-washy in his "change" that I found myself rolling my eyes more than anything. And the magic seems mostly arbitrary and flimsy and used to the plot's convenience to be rendered wholly uninteresting and arguably annoying. The pacing is weird. Is this supposed to be action-packed or cerebral? It tried to be both, but I found myself skimming through action scenes and mentally tuning out most of the time. I'm so bummed because the premise was so interesting and intriguing. But for me, this was wholly disappointing.Disappointing! I'm befuddled by all the positive reviews. Did these people actually read the book? Adeyemi has created a world with great potential, but she fumbles so badly I found myself dragging through most of the book. If I hadn't had to read it for work, I would have given up. The "strong female characters" are not strong AT ALL; they're just violent. I'm all for violence when it serves a greater purpose, but here it is gratuitous and even at times confusing. Adeyemi is killing off little kids and describing graphic torture of a mother and of the main character, among others. The naval battle/gladiator part is equally odd--it doesn't even really make sense, and since it is already abundantly clear how horrifically the magi suffer at the hands of their oppressors, it doesn't move the story along at all. In the end, a father kills his son due to pure bigotry, then the daughter/brother kills her father because she recognizes that her father is purely evil. (So purely, in fact, that her brother comes off as an idiot for ever being loyal to him, much less staying loyal when he's trying to kill his love interest.) The whole thing is so forced it's almost funny! Meanwhile, though several women do wield some form of power in this book, many others are quite pathetic, e.g. Zelie's mother, who we only see tortured and victimized until the last chapter, the Queen, and even Kaea, who though high up in the military is merciless and full of hatred (like many in this book). As for male characters, they are pretty lame--there's the vicious, hateful king Saran, his son, Inan, who is a blind follower until he falls for a magi, at which point he promises to betray his horrid father, after which he backtracks and ends up destroying the girl he's been ogling and smooching. Tzain, the heroine's brother, is better, but he seems angry and powerless through much of the book, and as a character he never really comes alive. Lastly, what is with the pseudo African tribal elements? An attempt to copy The Black Panther, maybe? There were tons of chants in some sort of dialect, but since we never get more information, it wasn't at all clear where that language came from. (I think it might actually have been a real language, perhaps? But it came off like a cheesy fake magic "tongue.") Bottom line: Children of Blood and Bone seemed to involve Adeyemi listing the things she thinks young adult readers would like (violence, fantasy, revenge plots, sex), then dropping them haphazardly into a narrative that might have been compelling in the hands of a more skilled creator but, alas, Just. So. Wasn't.Black Magic at its best Such a good book! I'm an adult. Like, grown. I am also a fan of Harry Potter and Tahereh Mafi, which I read as a child through college, and last year, respectively. To be fair, I buy books 'for my niece' and read them quickly before I give them to her as gifts so we can discuss them together - an activity I enjoy immensely. As a black woman who loves the fantasy genre, Adeyemi is my new hero for creating a world that draws its richness and depth from West Africa. We have a class of oppressed people who have gifts that the oppressors are afraid of - a theme so relevant to life today as a Diasporan in America. I remember reading an article that spoke of implicit bias and the belief that some people have that black people are magical and have almost super-human strength, and that those were seen as reasons to justify fear of black bodies. Adeyemi throws that on its head, and I can't wait to read (and see!) what happens next in Orïsha, and I can't wait to hear what my niece thinks of the book! #blackgirlmagic

Criss Cross (Alex Cross Book 27) Free Pdf

ISBN: B07QXJQWG2
Title: Criss Cross (Alex Cross Book 27) Pdf
A killer with all the skills of a master detective has made Alex Cross the subject of his deranged "investigation."
In a Virginia penitentiary, Alex Cross and his partner, John Sampson, witness the execution of a killer they helped convict. Hours later, they are called to the scene of a copycat crime. A note signed "M" rests on the corpse. "You messed up big time, Dr. Cross."
Was an innocent man just put to death? Alex soon realizes he may have much to answer for, as "M" lures the detective out of the capital to the sites of multiple homicides, all marked with distressingly familiar details -- details that conjure up decades-old cases. Details that conjure up Cross family secrets. Details that make clear that M is after a prize so dear that -- were the killer to attain it -- Alex's heart would no longer have reason to beat.

Suspenseful I love reading anything by James Patterson. This book was one of the best. I could not put it down. I needed to know what was happening it was on my mind all day until I could get home and read. Don't want to give anything away. Read this you won't regret it!!!A disappointment Many thanks to NeGalley and Random House for an ARC of this book. The terrible formatting on this advanced review copy made reading incredibly difficult. So many paragraphs lacked spaces completely, so that all the words ran into one another for line after line, meaning IfirsthadtodecipherwhatthewordswerebeforeIcould read the actual story. (I'm sure my example shows the point!) Annoying, frustrating, and utterly ridiculous. What's the point of sending out advanced review copies if the reviewers can't actually read the book?Okay, rant over on the lack of formatting. Now onto the book itself ...This being a James Patterson novel, I had high hopes. Those hopes were to be dashed upon the rocks of let-down and boredom. It was an okay read, but not one that gripped me or pulled me in or entertained. The plot was predictable. The characters are card-board cut outs and replicas of one another. I didn't feel any connection to any of them and, thus, couldn't care less what happened to them. One of the comments in the 'praise' section at the front of the book claims that Mr Patterson is the gold standard by which all others are judged. All I can say is, I hope that bar gets raised again and soon. Otherwise we're all in trouble. It gets two stars from me.***NOTE ON RATINGS: I consider a 3-star rating a positive review. Picky about which books I give 5 stars to, I reserve this highest rating for the stories I find stunning and which moved me.5 STARS: IT WAS AMAZING! I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN! — Highly Recommended.4 STARS: I WOULD PULL AN ALL-NIGHTER — Go read this book.3 STARS: IT WAS GOOD! — An okay read. Didn’t love it. Didn’t hate it.2 STARS: I MAY HAVE LIKED A FEW THINGS —Lacking in some areas: writing, characterisation, and/or problematic plot lines.1 STAR: NOT MY CUP OF TEA —Lots of issues with this book.Old Foes Never Die and New Ones are out to Get You! I love the way James Patterson includes Alex Cross's family in each of his mysteries. If you don't like that, you might not like this book, because Nana Mama, wife Bree, and children Jannie and Ali are prominent parts of the narrative as Alex and his friend John Sampson chase one or more serial killers and kidnappers who are out for revenge and to make it look like Alex framed an innocent man who is executed in the early part of the book. Patterson books don't go stale because he incorporates every modern law-breaking method there is, from the use of crypto-currency and burner phones to disappearing messages on Wickr. Throw in some survivalist hideaways and plastic surgeries and it is hard to figure out who is hiding where. Threats are coming from every direction and strike Alex where he is most vulnerable. What ploy will he invent this time to race against the clock when lives are on the line? Can he stop the mysterious "M"? The ending is vintage Patterson.

Author: Barbour Publishing
Published Date: 2017
Page: 192
Here is a brand-new collection of more than 500 of the very best dad jokes. Jokes are organized in topics—Silly Kids, Action/Reaction, All Puns All the Time, Love & Marriage, One-Liners, Faith—so dads (and fans of dad jokes) can find the perfect rib-tickler (groaner) for every occasion. Also included are a dozen Bible verses to provide a bit of faith-based wisdom along with these clean, albeit definitely Dad, jokes.

No "Dad Jokes", just really stupid jokes I expected jokes that I could tell my grandkids. There are none of those in here that they'd understand, just a bunch of very stupid jokes.Overall, a good book My dad enjoyed this book overall. I just wish there were more straight forward, punny, dad style jokes instead of paragraph and religious stuff. See photos! But it was overall a good price and good book.Awful Not funny at all..not even in a dad way...just bad. Amazon wouldn't even take it back..thinking about sending it around the family as a gag gift but literally no jokes are even the slightest bit funny. No punch line. Nothing.

Life Is Magic Pdf

ISBN: B07RG7KZKR
Title: Life Is Magic Pdf An Extraordinary True Story of Trauma and Transformation

In the tradition of inspirational best sellers by Glennon Doyle Melton and Brené Brown, Life Is Magic is Jon Dorenbos's extraordinary and empowering true story of resilience, forgiveness, and living a life of purpose in the face of unfathomable obstacles.

You may know him as an NFL All-Pro or as a world-class magician who made the finals of America's Got Talent. But Jon Dorenbos says that what he does is not who he is. Who he is is someone forced, at the most tender of ages, to coach himself into turning tragedy to triumph.

One morning in August 1992, when Jon was 12 years old and living a seemingly idyllic childhood in suburban Seattle, he woke up for baseball camp. His dad waved good-bye. Later that day, Jon heard the news: His father had murdered his mother in the family's three-car garage. In an instant, his life had shattered. He'd been essentially orphaned.

Thrust into foster care while his father stood trial for murder, Jon struggled. Left to himself, he discovered an unlikely escape performing magic tricks. If you found a way to alter your reality, after your dad - your hero - killed your mom, wouldn't you cling to it, too? Then came football, which provided a release for all of his pent-up anger. Together, magic and football saved him, leading to 14 NFL seasons on the gridiron and raucous sleight of hand performances to packed houses across the globe.

In 2017, traded to the New Orleans Saints, Jon was diagnosed with a life-threatening heart condition. He had a choice: Break down? Or - as he'd by now long taught himself - bounce back? "Talk to yourself, don't listen to yourself", Dorenbos advises for those moments when, facing seemingly insurmountable odds, the inner voice of self-doubt screams.

In Life Is Magic, Jon Dorenbos draws a roadmap for how to shut that voice up by choosing happiness. At his darkest times, he writes, he's learned lessons of love, forgiveness, and perseverance. His story is poignant and powerful, told by a charismatic and optimistic man who has overcome life and death challenges with grace, persistence, a child-like sense of wonder...and jaw-dropping card tricks.

Jon's story--WOW! Just WOW! I caught the end of the Ellen show with Jon promoting his book. I had no idea who Jon was or his story. I was intrigued by the promo and ordered the book.Jon's story--WOW! Just WOW! Jon and his family suffered the tragic murder of his mother. Thankfully with therapy and magic, Jon was able to find the good in the world. His positive attitude helped others around him and he continues to scatter kindness!Incredible book! It’s not just what you overcome it’s how you overcome! I have been excited for the release of Life is Magic for some time now. Jon does a “magical” job of sharing his story but it’s not just what he has overcome that makes him unique it’s how he has overcome.Life is Magic, is about a man who lives in the vision of what he wants to be and doesn’t let his beliefs be dictated by the circumstances of his childhood. This book will motivate you to be the best person you can be, not because Jon tells you to be but because Jon has been through so much in his life but still treats everyday like it’s a blessing. As a parent of soon to be 4 children, a basketball coach and a business owner I rarely have time to pick up a book and read, but Life is Magic I could not put down. A story of perseverance, a story of hope and a story of forgiveness. Get a copy, you will be very happy you did."Life is Magic," turns your heart "right side up." "Life is Magic," is a truly heartbreaking beautiful, funny and inspiring book. Jon Dorenbos is refreshingly honest and transparent in recounting the loss of his Mom at the hands of his father. The journal entries included while coping with the loss of his Mom give you an insight into the grieving process and show that there is no one true order in which we come out on the other side. Jon shows that you can come through and accomplish anything in life with forgiveness and belief in ones self. It will make you cry, laugh and I challenge any one to put it down.

The Curies’ newly discovered element of radium makes gleaming headlines across the nation as the fresh face of beauty, and wonder drug of the medical community. From body lotion to tonic water, the popular new element shines bright in the otherwise dark years of the First World War.

Meanwhile, hundreds of girls toil amidst the glowing dust of the radium-dial factories. The glittering chemical covers their bodies from head to toe; they light up the night like industrious fireflies. With such a coveted job, these “shining girls” are the luckiest alive — until they begin to fall mysteriously ill.

But the factories that once offered golden opportunities are now ignoring all claims of the gruesome side effects, and the women’s cries of corruption. And as the fatal poison of the radium takes hold, the brave shining girls find themselves embroiled in one of the biggest scandals of America’s early 20th century, and in a groundbreaking battle for workers’ rights that will echo for centuries to come.

Written with a sparkling voice and breakneck pace, The Radium Girls fully illuminates the inspiring young women exposed to the “wonder” substance of radium, and their awe-inspiring strength in the face of almost impossible circumstances. Their courage and tenacity led to life-changing regulations, research into nuclear bombing, and ultimately saved hundreds of thousands of lives...

Brilliant book One of the best books I have read in a long time! Telling the story of the Radium Girls from the standpoint of the girls/women who were victimized by corporate greed and their battle for their rights was wonderful. Kate Moore brought these brave women to light in a brilliant manner. I had trouble putting this book down and highly recommend it.A compelling and meticulously researched book If only the women were shown this level of respect in their lifetimes. Their story shines from the pages and is horrifyingly relevant to today. We owe these ladies an enormous debt and it our duty to see it is repaid by never allowing it to be repeated. The Lost Girls Rediscovered. In the early twentieth century one of the best jobs young girls and women in America could have involved something exciting and brand new: radium. Sparkling, glowing, and beautiful, radium was also, according to the companies that employed these young women, completely harmless. A century later the truth about radium and its assorted isotopes is all too well known. In The Radium Girls Kate Moore tells the story of these young women, seemingly so fortunate, who were poisoned by the jobs they felt so lucky to have.Radium was widely heralded as a wondrous new substance after it was first isolated by the Curies. It appeared to have an infinite number of uses, one of the first of which was to make the numbers on clocks and watches easier to see. Workers were needed to coat the dials with radium paint, and the best and most efficient workers were women and girls, some as young as 14 or 15. The work was pleasant and sociable: the women sat around tables painting, moistening the thin brushes in their mouths before they dipped them into the paint, chatting, eating, and drinking while they worked, sometimes taking extra paint home with them to practice with, sometimes painting their teeth, faces, hair, and clothing to make them sparkly. When they left the studio their clothing would be covered with radium dust, and would glow ghost-like in the night. The pay was good and the work was easy, but then some of the women started having strange pains in their mouths and bones. Their teeth would loosen and fall out and their jaws, legs, and ankles would develop permanent aches or even crumble. After some of the women died and more became ill the companies making large profits on radium rushed to dismiss any hint that the work was unsafe. Victims and their families sought relief and assistance, but found they were responsible for their own mounting medical bills. The federal, state, and local governments all disavowed any responsibility. Eventually publicity stemming from lawsuits filed by some of the victims (using their own scanty resources) focused enough attention on the problem that governments felt compelled to set safety standards and regulations. The Radium Girls is a horrifying read. The careless ways in which radium was handled, the indifference of the radium using industries and the governments involved to the safety of the women painters (in contrast to the men who worked to produce the radium, who were protected by lead shields), and the pain and suffering of the women themselves are appalling. The safety regulations and restrictions which were finally put into place hardly seem adequate, and the Epilogue and Postscript giving details of the women's later lives, as well as an account of another industry that made careless use of radium as late as the 1970s, are especially harrowing. This is a well written, meticulously research and documented, account of tragedies that never should have been. The radium girls' lives can't be returned to them, but thanks to Kate Moore we can remember, and learn, from their pain.
